By mentioning Spanish Santanders, Mike Smith has clearly revealed his hand, and the secret agena of all banks, and combining that by supporting the abolition of the big four policy only strengthens that position.

And about 2 seconds after the first merger announcement between the big 4, the other 2 will join up; there is no future as a bank half the size of the incumbent gorilla. Then there will be clear duopoly profits, not just the cosy oligopoly outcomes now.

Does Smith think we’re stupid? Or what?
Maybe he thinks that gravitas comes with big executive salaries.
Greed not gravitas come to mind. And somehow whenever there is a merger the “losing” CEO and his court jesters always seem to do extremely well.
