It’s good to see that somone is keeping an eye on these newspapers. Their obvious bias in favour of the Tories makes me vomit. It would be healthy for our democracy to have balance; maybe the equivalent of the Guardian here.

Newsflash: The Oz is biased towards the Liberal Party….oh wait a minute thats old news. You could compare probably any newspaper with the Oz and find out they heavily favour Howard. But an interesting article none the less.

As a long time Oz reader I’m ashamed to say that your analysis is correct. Lead stories have been spun to favour Mr Howard, big negative stories about the Government have been played down or omitted, & Labor is always being portrayed in a lesser light.

Did not the Oz editorial some months back clearly state their preference ? Naturally they will publish the news that fits - witness any climate change ‘sceptic’ article.

I always read the weekend Australian and find the editorial to be balanced and fair.
However, the daily editorial seems to have a definate right wing , pro coalition bias.

The Oz isn’t supporting Libs, just some effort at balance. Number of good news shows there’s more positive material about Libs than Labor. As for Newspoll bias, it skips WA as it upsets pro-Rudd result, & moves its poll time to fit interest rate rise day.

How can you say this????Look at the numbers: 25% strongly favourable for coaltion, vs 9.4% s.f. for labour., 12.5% total. If anything, it says the age is more prone to hyperbole.

You’re right Tony. The Oz is proactively correcting the issue of abundant left wing reportage. That’s a paper’s role isn’t it? Not reporting facts. And of course all papers must only report info as the Coalition sees fit. Not independent reports!

I had already identified the leanings of both these broadsheets, just from reading them, so it is nice to have the statistical analysis back me up. Same for columnists in the Oz. Hard to identify this if reading only one paper.
