Australia revealed: Kevin Rudd, Cup favourite

More than six million Australians will tune into the Melbourne Cup today, according to special Roy Morgan Research, but how will they vote? That’s what we’re looking at today. We’ve dug into Roy Morgan data to pull out the 25 seats with the highest percentage of electors who watch the Melbourne Cup. The Victoria Racing Club markets it as the race that stops the nation, but it still seems to be a local thing – 16 of the electorates are in Victoria. The seats where more electors watch the Cup tend to be held by the Coalition parties. However, there’s bad news for the government there. Four Cup-watching key marginals – McEwen, Bowman, Eden-Monaro and Moreton — are leaning to Labor. Indeed, the Melbourne Cup watching seats appear to be strongly leaning Labor’s way. Kevin Rudd, the cup favourite? Crikey’s key seats – the 49 seats we believe will decide the federal election — are marked with an asterisk and more details are available from Electorate Profiles on the Roy Morgan Online Store.
